Gravel mats (also known as stabilization grids) make it possible to create a stable, clean and durable gravel surface for driveways, garden paths and terraces. When properly installed, they prevent gravel from shifting, sinking or forming ruts \u2013 offering the look of natural stone with the stability of a solid pavement.<\/p>\n

Below is a simple, step-by-step guide on how to install gravel mats correctly.<\/p>\n

1. Remove the Topsoil<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Start by excavating the existing top layer of soil. Remove soft or organic material until you reach a firm base. Install edging boards so they rise about 2 cm above the final grid height\u2014this will help keep the gravel neatly contained.<\/p>\n

2. Build the Foundation Layer<\/strong><\/h2>\n

A strong foundation is crucial.<\/p>\n

    Dig to a depth of approx. 20\u201330 cm<\/strong>, depending on traffic load.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  • \n

    Fill the area with crushed stone or gravel (0\u201332 mm or 0\u201340 mm).<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    Compact each layer with a vibrating plate for maximum stability.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Avoid using brick rubble\u2014it breaks down over time and causes sinking.<\/p>\n

      Place the stabilization mats onto the levelled surface.<\/p>\n

        Lay them in a staggered pattern (half-brick style).<\/p>\n<\/li>\n
